After thirty-two years the journey still continues. I started out as a part-time entry level employee while attending college part-time and after graduating from Cal State Fullerton, John Couts our company founder offered me a full-time position. It was an easy “Yes” for me because I saw first-hand how John treated his team from his V.P. of Operations to the field apprentices; they were people to him and not a number. By being part of the Couts Family for many years, I have been fortunate to grow with the company and learn our trade in Sheet Metal, Piping, Service and Controls. Learning came easy at Couts because there was always someone willing to share their knowledge.
My 6 F’s Family, Faith, Fair, Fun, Fit and Failure as it relates to business. I believe that if you treat people like family there will be more solutions than problems. Secondly, I have faith in myself and in my teammates to do our very best and to rise above any challenge that gets in our way. Third, If you treat people fairly then they know decisions are made with reasoning in mind. Fourth, Work must be fun and if it’s not, then it’s just a job. Fifth, Not everyone will be the right fit, give them the opportunity to adapt. Lastly, I don’t set up people for failure, if I did all my other F’s would be meaningless.
I was not born with a silver spoon, but I have no regrets because it helped define who I am today. Born in the Philippines but came to California at the age of one, I still consider myself a So-Cal native. Being the oldest of four siblings, I had the additional responsibility to help my parents when I could. Because of this, it took me 10 years to finish college, but I have no regrets. If I had finished sooner, I would not have met the love of my life or have my two beautiful kids.
